Board members discussed the schedule required to place the question before voters — including a 77-day deadline before election day for final filings — and a communications plan that could include presence at football games, informational tailgates and an organized levy committee. Board members and staff emphasized the need to decide promptly in order to allow time for outreach and for any stakeholders who would register as a levy committee with the state if they plan to raise or spend campaign funds.
Mrs. Harvey made the motion to run the levy, which Mrs. Farley seconded; the motion passed by the board. Staff said that, operationally, the district can begin an informational campaign before the formal filing deadline and can adjust the proposal if public feedback suggests changes to the measure.
Why it matters: A successful levy would provide the district with recurring local revenue that could be used for operating expenses described in board materials. Board members noted this is the closest the district has come to passing a levy in recent cycles and said they do not want to forgo the opportunity to try again.
