Deephaven council approves consent agenda, accepts officer resignation and hears department updates

The Deephaven City Council approved a consent agenda and heard brief department reports at its Oct. 21 meeting.
The consent agenda—moved by Councilmember John Studer and seconded by Councilmember Emily Scherschligt—included approval of the Oct. 7 workshop and regular meeting minutes, verified claims, authorization for Minnetonka Schools to use the Council Chamber, issuance of a Minnetonka Yacht Club liquor license, approval of a special event permit for 19145 Rutledge Road, and acceptance of Officer Van Hercke's resignation with authorization to post the open position. The motion carried with Mayor Kent Carlson and Councilmembers Scherschligt and Studer voting in favor.
In department reports, Police Chief Cory Johnson said it has been quiet and the department will post a vacancy for a new officer. City Administrator Dan Madsen briefed the council on Fire Department discussions about funding a needed chiller and said 2025 budgets have been approved and will be coming forward for city action. Public Works staff are preparing trucks for winter and working at the Children's Park. Staff also reported that direct ballot voting began Friday, Oct. 18, and that city budgets are nearing completion.
Councilmember John Studer moved to adjourn at approximately 7:45 p.m.; Councilmember Emily Scherschligt seconded and the motion carried.
