Josephine County to submit comment opposing unnecessary groundwater regulation

Hicks told the Board that additional information from a previous presenter remained outstanding but that a draft comment letter had been prepared using available information. The Board agreed it was appropriate to submit comments opposing unnecessary regulation — specifically citing concerns discussed about potential well metering requirements, impacts on private well owners and the protection of local water rights — and directed staff to transmit the finalized letter by certified mail and electronically before the deadline. Staff also posted information about the public comment opportunity on the County website to encourage public participation.
No formal vote was recorded; the Board and staff proceeded with outreach and letter transmission ahead of the comment deadline.
