Cedar County sets July 14 hearing on six road-closure and vacation requests

The Cedar County Board of Supervisors on June 16 approved a resolution to set a public hearing at 9:00 a.m. on July 14, 2026 to consider closing and vacating several roads and rights of way across the county.
The resolution lists six items (RCV2026-1 through RCV2026-6), including: a section of Sargeant Street in the unincorporated town of Downey; a section of Broadway Street in Downey; an alley in Block 16 in Downey; a section of Cedar Street adjacent to Downey Lots 7-12 and a tract south of Block 16; a section of Andre Street in the unincorporated town of Cedar Bluff; and a section of 260th Street between Yankee Avenue and a point between sections 24 and 25 in Inland Township. The resolution directs that the required notice be published and adjoining property owners be notified by certified mail in advance of the hearing.
Supervisor Kaufmann moved to set the hearing and Supervisor Bixler seconded the motion. The board approved the resolution with all supervisors present voting aye; Supervisors Gaul and Barnhart were absent.
The hearing will provide an opportunity for adjoining property owners and other interested parties to present views before the board acts on any closure or vacation.
