Josephine County board authorizes continued union negotiations and approves Silverbrook plat and courtroom auditorium rental

Human Resources Director Michelle Shaw, HR analyst Natalie Eckhardt-Doupe and Rob Brandes from Public Works briefed the board on collective bargaining that must begin ahead of the contract expiration on June 30, 2026. Staff reported a bargaining-unit request for a one-year contract extension and sought direction on negotiating authority, anticipated topics such as cost-of-living adjustments and health-care contributions, and whether to use internal staff versus outside counsel. Commissioners expressed support for staff to continue gathering historical bargaining information and to return with recommended terms.
On separate agenda items the board approved the Silverbrook Phase 2 Plat Map Subdivision, noting it had already received city approval and would add residential housing units in the Fruitdale area; Commissioner Colene M. Martin moved and Commissioner Gary L. Richardson seconded, with a roll-call vote of 3-0. The board also approved an Anne G. Basker Auditorium rental application submitted on behalf of the Josephine County Circuit Court for staff use on July 14, 2026; that application was approved without objection.
