On June 23 the Cedar County Board of Supervisors granted the Pioneer Cemetery Commission permission to operate within pioneer sections of non-pioneer cemeteries and appointed James McCollough to the commission.
The motion to permit work under Iowa Code 331.325(3)(d) was moved by Supervisor Kaufmann and seconded by Supervisor Bixler and carried with Ayes: All; Absent: Gaul. The Board subsequently appointed James McCollough to the Pioneer Cemetery Commission for a term ending Dec. 31, 2028; that appointment was moved by Supervisor Barnhart and seconded by Supervisor Bixler.
The permissions and appointment are intended to allow the commission to perform restoration, maintenance or other authorized activities in historic pioneer sections that may exist inside otherwise non-pioneer cemeteries. No additional funding or conditions were recorded in the motion; the action was administrative in nature and carried unanimously among members present.
The Board also received routine correspondence and personnel notices earlier in the meeting, but no public comments were offered during the public comment period for this agenda item.
The Pioneer Cemetery Commission's new appointee will serve until Dec. 31, 2028, per the Board motion.
