The Southern Berkshire Regional School Committee voted June 22 to roll 9.5 unused vacation days for the superintendent into future leave rather than pay a lump-sum payout.
Committee members debated attendance coding for holiday breaks and whether some absences had been taken as vacation days without a work‑from‑home designation in the interim contract. The chair explained the interim contract language and the memo before the committee saying 17.5 days were available, eight used, leaving 9.5 days that could either be paid out or rolled forward. Rolling the days forward would avoid an estimated payout of about $6,832.69 and remain under the district cap of 35 carryover days.
A motion to roll the days passed by roll call with six yes votes, two no votes and one abstention. Members said the decision was in the district’s fiscal interest while still consistent with contract limits.
