The Southern Berkshire Regional School Committee voted June 22 to approve a proposed contractor agreement with district treasurer Cammy Lama and her firm, Education Finance Services LLC, with conditions. The motion required school‑committee counsel to review contract language and for staff to verify the range of hours included in the scope of services.
Lama proposed a $17,680 annual fee to cover the treasurer duties she has performed for several years; she said any services beyond the stated scope would be billed at $125 per hour. Committee members sought an estimate of hours tied to the scope so the committee understands whether the annual fee is a fixed scope payment or an hourly commitment. One member observed that the $17,680 figure is effectively a fixed annual amount "for the scope of services whether it takes me 10 minutes or 10,000 hours," while the hourly rate exists only in case additional work is requested.
The committee amended the motion to require counsel review and a clarification of the hours included in the scope. The motion passed with one abstention.
Members said they would also explore, offline, whether a follow-on consulting agreement to help with the district’s END (Excess & Deficiency) filings or to mentor the new business manager could be legally acceptable and budget-feasible; that separate proposal was tabled to the July 23 agenda pending a conflict-of-interest check and a clearer scope.
