Grand County closes on Windy Gap property, approves tree-mitigation payment

Grand County staff told commissioners the county completed the purchase of the Windy Gap branch and has begun related mitigation work.
Finance reported a wire for $1,048,416.71 processed on Nov. 26 to the title company for the purchase of the Windy Gap branch. County manager said the Windy Gap site closed around 4:45 p.m. on Nov. 26 and that Northern Water granted access to allow contracted tree-mitigation work to begin.
Manager said the county executed a contract with High Range Tree Service (Tucker Merz) to mitigate burned trees on the property and processed a prepayment of $21,000 per that contract. “Tucker's gonna get started today,” the manager said, and staff will also coordinate mitigation with Northern Water on their parcel.
Finance staff noted the Windy Gap purchase will ultimately be covered by OLRT funds; commissioners acknowledged the purchase and the early mitigation payment would appear in next week’s vouchers.
Next steps: mitigation work will proceed; associated payments will be listed in future vouchers and staff will report progress to the board.
