Council hears infrastructure and holiday event updates; members press for broader meeting access

On Nov. 12 Port Clinton council received updates from city staff about infrastructure projects and upcoming holiday events and discussed how to improve public access to council meetings.
Staff reported that Erie Black Top completed Plan A Phase 1; two streets originally scheduled for paving (Fifth Street east of Fulton and Kaspar Street) will be deferred to spring 2025 because additional work was required on Lee Street. Staff said the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approved the water portion of Plan B and the sewer portion remains pending; Plan B is targeted to go out for bid in late spring or early summer 2025. The traffic signal project on W. Lakeshore Drive was described as ongoing, with poles expected to be installed the week of Nov. 18 and the project slated for completion this year. Leaf pickup is ongoing.
Staff announced that the downtown Christmas tree (donated by a resident on East Third Street) will be placed and lit on Nov. 23 at 6:00 p.m., and the Christmas Parade is scheduled for Dec. 7 at 5:30 p.m. (route: Monroe Street south to E. Second east to the Adams Street gazebo).
Councilor Avery Robinson asked where meeting videos are posted and recommended broader livestreaming, including to "The Talk of Port Clinton" Facebook page. Acting Clerk Beth Gillman noted many residents are not connected to social media and described efforts to notify residents directly when needed. Mr. Colston said he would supply the list of roads planned for Plan B when it becomes available.
What comes next: staff will provide details on Plan B roads when available, and councilors indicated interest in expanding meeting access options ahead of future meetings.
