Port Clinton council unanimously approves application for Natureworks grant to fund splash pad

Councilor Jerry Tarolli moved to waive the three required readings of Resolution 24-9 because of time sensitivity; Pat Hovis seconded. The motion carried by voice roll call, 7-0, and Tarolli then moved to adopt the resolution; Hovis seconded and the adoption passed 7-0.
The auditor explained that Resolution 24-9 directs the city’s economic development coordinator to execute and file an application to the ODNR Natureworks grant program and that the city intends to request the full dollar amount available to the county. The auditor told council it was the city’s understanding that no other entities in the county were pursuing the same grant.
If funded, the grant dollars would be used to install a splash pad within Port Clinton. The resolution gives the economic development coordinator authority to file the required application documents; the transcript does not specify the dollar amount being requested.
The council handled the measure as a first-reading adoption because of the application timeline. The council’s action allows staff to proceed with the grant application process; further steps, including grant award notification or construction approvals, would follow only if funding is granted.
