Mayor reports Camp Perry Readiness Center, infrastructure updates and unanimous waiver of liquor hearing

Port Clinton Mayor Snider used the Oct. 22 City Council meeting to report recent developments including a Camp Perry Readiness Center groundbreaking, an infrastructure update, and operational notices affecting parks and municipal services.
The mayor said he attended a groundbreaking at Camp Perry for a new Readiness Center (armory), which he said will bring about 20 new full‑time jobs and host roughly 300 people training monthly. He described the project as a positive economic stimulus for the community.
On the city’s FLIP infrastructure program, the mayor said Plan B (below-ground) is on track for bidding and Plan A (above-ground) is completing phase 1. The city maintains a $500,000 contingency for unknowns and the mayor said Lee Street will require about $200,000 from that contingency to be restored to an acceptable condition.
Other operational items reported: Barry’s Bagel in Portage Township donated its building for fire-department training and the structure will be taken down after training; the Port Clinton Fire Department has signed an Auto Aid agreement with Danbury Township establishing automatic mutual assistance on structure fires; the City Hall parking lot will be sealed this week; Portage Park restrooms remain open year-round while Lakeview Park facilities are closed for the season; brush pickup is complete and leaf pickup start date is to be determined.
Financial snapshots were provided: Bed tax revenue as of Oct. 18 was $333,479.33, watercraft tax $22,603.39 and short-term rental registration fees $62,400.00. In correspondence business, Council moved to waive its right to a hearing with the Ohio Division of Liquor Control for Magi Enterprises, Inc., DBA Phil’s Inn; the motion, moved by Mrs. Gillman and seconded by Mr. Tarolli, carried by a 7-0 roll-call vote.
Councilmembers offered brief floor remarks thanking the presenter and welcoming new Ward 4 Councilman Avery Robinson. The mayor said an ordinance proposing the 2025 budget will be presented to Council in November. The meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
