Port Clinton council adopts two fire-related ordinances, waives readings and retains emergency clauses

Port Clinton City Council on Aug. 13 adopted two fire-related ordinances after unanimous roll call votes.
Ordinance 14-24 authorizes the Director of Safety and Service to enter into agreements to purchase capital equipment and supplies for the Port Clinton Fire Department using American Rescue Plan Act funds. Council moved to waive the three readings, retained the emergency clause and adopted the ordinance; roll call was 7-0.
Ordinance 15-24 establishes salaries for full-time firefighters and was similarly moved through with waived readings, retention of the emergency clause and adoption on a 7-0 roll call. When Mrs. King asked whether the city's compensation is similar to other communities, Acting Fire Chief Gutman said officials are "competitive with surrounding communities." Council members confirmed vendors were ready to supply approved equipment and noted the cascade system that fills breathing tanks requires servicing.
Both ordinances were adopted by unanimous vote; the minutes record no dissent or amendments at the Aug. 13 meeting.
