Port Clinton council approves routine business, hears updates on parks, property evaluations and paving

Port Clinton City Council on July 9 approved routine business, heard staff reports on parks and property management, and received updates on public works projects.
The meeting opened with Council President Lisa Sarty presiding. Jerry Tarolli moved to appoint Beth Gillman as Temporary Clerk; Margaret Phillips seconded and the motion carried 7–0. Council then approved the June 25 regular meeting minutes by unanimous agreement.
Mayor Snider thanked volunteers and partner groups for a successful Fourth of July series, naming the Port Clinton Women’s Club and several event organizers; council noted that Margaret Phillips’ fundraising efforts raised $6,200 for fireworks. The mayor also announced a J‑1 student welcome event July 29 at The District and that Aug. 25 will be Port Clinton Day at Fifth Third Field, where Tracy Colston is scheduled to throw the ceremonial first pitch.
Staff reported on other items: OHM Advisors submitted a Park Amenities Plan with recommendations and cost estimates for improvements such as splash pads, pickleball courts, a dog park, a multi‑use plaza and widened pathways; a project timeline was not available. Law Director Ms. Shenker said Paul Christman will assume duties as Property Maintenance Officer, and Christman said he will develop a comprehensive system to evaluate city properties and ask for council assistance to address issues by ward.
Public works staff reported vandalism at the new restrooms at Waterworks Park. Council discussed garbage‑truck routing during upcoming paving; Mr. Colston said the below‑ground portion of the paving project will go out for bid in fall 2024 and that Phase 2 (mill/fill) will begin six to eight months after that, with Fourth, Seventh and Washington scheduled for total reconstruction including curbs.
Council received several compliments about fireworks and recent road work. Jerry Tarolli flagged a partially collapsed structure at 1405 E. Third Street for follow up. With no further business the council adjourned at 6:37 p.m.
