Port Clinton reports $959,000 urban forestry grant to fund tree program

During the auditor's report at the Aug. 13 meeting, council was told that the City's urban forestry grant application was selected and fully funded at $959,000. The auditor said the grant is funded through the Inflation Reduction Act and administered by the U.S. Forest Service and American Forests.
City officials said the four-year grant will establish a sustained tree trimming and removal program and a new tree-planting program. The auditor said the City expects to program more than $350,000 of the grant in the first 12 months. Paul Christman was named project administrator and will work with City staff and the Tree Commission to implement the program.
Council took no vote on the grant at the meeting; the auditor indicated the agreement was expected for signatures imminently.
