Port Clinton council unanimously ratifies mayor's removal of Civil Service Commission member

Lisa Sarty, president of the Port Clinton City Council, presided over a meeting Aug. 13 where the council voted to ratify Mayor Michael Snider's removal of Civil Service Commission member Carl Koebel.
Mayor Michael Snider read a formal complaint seeking Koebel's removal. Koebel addressed the council, saying he attended a Civil Service Commission hearing as a commission member to ask questions and observe and that he did not "recall having an argument with the hearing officer Benjamin Albrecht." He told council he considered his relationship with the terminated employee an "acquaintance, not good friends," and said the complaint, received Aug. 6, made him feel "like a criminal." Koebel also described physical symptoms that affected him during testimony and explained that he briefly sat with a person named Amy Drummer at one hearing.
After the complaint and Koebel's remarks, Council Member Beth Gillman moved to ratify the mayor's decision to remove Koebel; Jerry Tarolli seconded. A voice roll call recorded seven yes votes and Mrs. Sarty announced the motion carried 7-0, formally removing Koebel from the Civil Service Commission.
The minutes note the complaint was included as an attachment to the meeting record. Council took no further action or follow-up direction at the Aug. 13 meeting.
