The Hobart City Redevelopment Authority unanimously approved a task order for engineering services to reline sanitary sewer pipes in Maryville Heights and Brookview, authorizing $177,135 for design and project management.
Staff explained the work is intended to increase sewer capacity so a proposed data-center development can connect without overloading the system. A reimbursement agreement will be used to recoup costs from the developer. "We'll work out internally how that works out between us and the clerk's office to get it recouped," a staff member said, adding the developer had agreed to pay for at least part of the sewer-improvement work.
The authority's attorney noted the data-center connection work is part of a preapproved package tied to the developer (referred to in the meeting as ADS/Amazon Data Services) and stressed the importance of a formal connection agreement to avoid exposure to unreimbursed costs. "They already agreed to pay for it," the attorney said of the developer's prior commitments, but said a concrete agreement is needed.
Chair called the motion to approve the task order in the amount of $177,135; the motion was seconded and the board voted aye to carry the measure. Staff said the project will proceed with engineering and later return to the authority with construction recommendations and reimbursement paperwork.
