Cohasset to bring before‑and‑after program in‑house; registration set for Aug. 17

The Cohasset School Committee heard a briefing and operational plan on June 24 for bringing the district’s before‑and‑after school program in‑house for a pilot year.
Principal Sullivan and program director Brett explained that the program—formerly run by the Recreation Department—will be managed by the schools beginning this fall. Registration will open on Aug. 17 in Aspen; the program will use the district’s existing revolving fund and the district has a positive balance from prior operations. Typical staffing ratios will be 1:10, breakfast and snacks will be provided through school food services, and scheduling will allow families to pick trimester‑based commitments with monthly billing.
The committee received a sample pricing schedule: morning-only pricing of $20/day (discounting to $18/day for a five‑day commitment) and additional charges for early‑release days. Startup estimates include modest purchases (cabinets, supplies) and Aspen workflow setup. Administrators said licensing and compliance protocols—staff background checks, first aid and CPR training—will be followed. The district characterized the first year as a pilot and will refine registration and staffing processes based on demand.
Committee members and staff discussed governance, the existing revolving fund mechanics, and communications to families about registration and web‑page redirects.
