Cohasset Select Board hears town-hall renovation update; schematic design complete, budget estimate rises

The Cohasset Select Board on June 16 received a design and budget update for the town-hall renovation project.
Mark Cameron, a member of the town-hall working group, said schematic design for the interior is complete and the project has awarded a contractor for window replacement, work that will begin over summer and fall to secure the building envelope before winter. A professional estimator produced a current cost estimate that shows the project trending about $223,000 over the previous March figure; the presentation identified candidate deduct alternates (a porch/chairlift and generator) and noted the generator is included in current figures and would support use of the building as a warming center during outages.
Cameron said the project will move into design development and construction documents next; bidding and procurement would follow and the team is targeting mobilization in December or January for the main construction phase. Board members asked that the documents preserve bid flexibility and include deduct alternates so essential systems (fire alarm, HVAC, sprinkler) can be secured while optional items could be deferred if bids come in higher than estimates.
The board voted to proceed with the project under the current plan and to continue reporting updated cost estimates as the design advances.
