Bardstown officials report on flood response, FY26 general fund review and aquatics center bid status

Nelson County Judge Executive Tim Hutchins opened public remarks at the City Council's April 8 meeting by thanking the City of Bardstown for its support during recent flooding and by acknowledging emergency personnel. Hutchins told the council that an EF1 tornado touched down on April 3 near Pottershop Road and thanked Fire Chief Todd Spalding for providing water-rescue teams.
Fire Chief Todd Spalding thanked his staff and said the department established five water-rescue teams with assistance from Georgia Task Force 6 during the flooding response. Police Chief Kim Kraeszig said the police offered support where needed throughout the city.
City Administrator Aaron Boles thanked staff for protecting the water plant during heavy rain, noted that high-volume water users reduced demand to help maintain supply, and provided an update on the status of the sale of the city's cable and internet services to Spectrum. Boles also reviewed the FY26 General Fund budget and answered questions from council members during the work session portion of the meeting.
Mayor J. Richard Heaton announced the city's Easter Egg Hunt scheduled for 10:00 AM on April 19, 2025 at the Community Park and said city leaders are reviewing bids for the Bardstown Aquatic and Sports Center; he said he expects a groundbreaking in the near future.
What happens next: City staff will continue the FY26 budget review and follow up on procurement steps for the aquatics project and the negotiated sale of cable/internet services; emergency-response debriefs and any follow-up reports will proceed per department practice.
