West Milwaukee police add K‑9 Cain, report officer graduation and ongoing garage break‑in investigation

Chief Randolph told the board that Officer Jacob Mertz graduated from the Milwaukee police academy on Oct. 10. She said Officer Eric Kevin Bratz transferred from Germantown and is currently progressing through field training.
The chief also described an early‑morning incident in which an on‑duty West Milwaukee officer received an alert from a garage camera at about 2:18 a.m. Officers responded, the suspect damaged a squad car and fled. Police have identified the suspect, located his vehicle and issued a felony warrant. Randolph said investigators believe the same individual is connected to five other garage break‑ins in the area; the investigation remains active.
The board’s unanimous backing to add Cain formalizes the dog’s role on the force; no vote tally was recorded beyond the board expressing unanimous support in the minutes.
