The Placer County Board of Supervisors on June 30 authorized the District Attorney’s Office to finalize a long‑term contract with Axon Enterprises to consolidate digital‑evidence management, body‑worn cameras and interview recording equipment.
District Attorney Morgan Geier described the contract as a way to reduce long‑term costs, modernize evidence handling and accelerate discovery for criminal cases. Chief Investigator Mary Green told the board the county’s current interview‑room software is no longer supported and that Axon’s Justice Premier Plus platform offers features such as automatic transcription, translation in 60+ languages, third‑party video playback and an AI evidence reviewer to speed review of large volumes of footage.
The requested authorization would allow execution of a contract for July 2026 through June 30, 2036 for a total not to exceed $2,707,856.79 and delegate amendment authority to the district attorney up to $100,000 subject to county counsel and risk management concurrence. Staff emphasized that Axon announced a price increase effective July 1 and that consolidating services now would lock current pricing and coordination among agencies.
The board voted to approve the contract. "It is the bread and butter of our cases now," Geier told supervisors, calling the upgrade a way to save staff time and taxpayer dollars while improving evidence handling.
