The Norristown Civil Service board met on June 29 and approved a resolution certifying a list of five new police officer hires and separately appointed a three-member oral exam board for the fire department.
The action on the police hires certified the following candidates as eligible for appointment: Jackson Patrick Ryan, Benjamin Charles Beaver, John Michael Bergin, Scott Edward Fischer and Davis Michael Bright Brightner. The board discussed the list, a motion to approve was made and seconded, and the board voted in favor of certification.
The board also approved a resolution to appoint an oral exam board for the fire department. The panel will consist of Deputy Richard Lockhart of Norristown, Chief Ed Glassman of Upper Moreland, and Chief Jake James Johnson of Upper Marion. A motion to appoint the panel was made, seconded and carried.
Earlier in the meeting the board moved to table approval of the minutes from the prior meeting until the minutes could be presented at the next meeting. With no further announcements the board made a motion to adjourn, which was approved and the meeting concluded. The officials listed as present on the record included Secretary Elijah Morris, Vice President Gina Lyons and lawyer Devon Updyke; Fire Chief Tom O'Donnell and Chief True (police) were also noted as present.
