Pellston council approves sidewalks, trailhead sign, tree removals and community events; bills of $434,998 cleared

The council approved a Trailhead sign (motion by Steve Hall) and awarded the Trailhead sidewalks contract to the lowest bidder, Russell O’Neil, for $11,000 (motion by Steve Hall; vote 4-0). Members also approved removal of tall pine trees along Edgar Blvd to accommodate water-system installation (motion by Jane Ann Rose, seconded by Jackie Pierce).
For community events, the council approved a senior send-off fireworks display at the football field on the evening of June 2 (motion by Steve Hall) and heard an announcement from President Jim Gillett that a Community Picnic will be held in Memorial Park on July 17 from 6:00–7:30 p.m.; the DDA will pay expenses and the Peacemeal Band will be paid $1,000.
Financially, the council approved bills totaling $434,998.32 (motion by Jane Ann Rose). The council also adopted the maximum allowable mileage rate for 2026 at 8.6754 and scheduled a Truth in Taxation public hearing for Monday, June 8 at 7:00 p.m.
None of these approvals was contested at the meeting; each motion passed by recorded voice vote noted as Yay 4, Nay 0.
