Selectmen reappoint commissioners, interview waterfront applicant and approve street numbers

The Stonington Board of Selectmen on June 24 reappointed two members to town commissions, interviewed an applicant for the Waterfront Commission, and approved two street-number assignments.

A motion to reappoint Jennifer Norcross to the Recreation Commission was made, seconded and carried on a voice vote. The board also reappointed Eric Grafenauer as an alternate member of the Flood Prevention, Climate Resilience, and Erosion Control Board; that motion also carried on a voice vote. The meeting transcript records the motions as passing but does not provide roll-call tallies.

During the Waterfront Commission interview, applicant Robert Smith stated he had reviewed the commission ordinance and the town's conflict-of-interest policy and anticipated no conflicts if appointed. Asked about the primary responsibilities of the Waterfront Commission, Smith said it was "to preserve and and protect our our waterfront" and described volunteer experience including more than 20 years on the Fisherman's Association board and four years leading an organization the transcript records as "Sněfluf." Smith said a successful tenure would mean "to make sure everybody is happy and and things keep going the way they're going."

The board approved two street-number assignments on voice votes: map 96 block 3 lots 4A and 4B were assigned 857 and 859 Pequot Trail, and map 165 block 5 lot 9A was assigned 36 Nautilus Way (Stonington 06378). The motions were made, seconded and recorded as carrying; no roll-call vote counts were provided in the transcript.

There were no public comments and no additional selectmen remarks before the chair adjourned the meeting.
