Condemnations and code enforcement: During a public hearing (Item 2), the jury ordered condemnation and removal within 30 days for multiple properties, including 1503 West Pine Meadows Drive (Moss Bluff), 2907 Renee Street, 1478 Meranceburg Road, 694 Bryan Street (Sulphur), and 1930 Jacobson Road (Sulphur). Staff requested deferrals for two properties: 2959 Smith Ferry Road (deferred to Aug. 6) and 606 Arnold Street (deferred 30 days).
Bids and contracts: The jury accepted the low bid of Keeland Construction for repairs and improvements to the White Oak Park boat launch for $2,093,000, and accepted Trahan Construction's low bid of $4,074,000 for first-floor and exterior improvements at 901 Lakeshore. The jury also accepted bulk oil bids from Broussard Petroleum Products, Go Bear Oil Company and Meeks Fuel.
Correctional health services and other agreements: The jury approved an amendment to professional services for additional behavioral health clinical services at the Calcasieu Correctional Center, the Calcasieu Sheriff’s prison and the Office of Juvenile Justice Services. The jury also approved continuing financial support and an agreement with the Cooperative Extension Service and allowed the Capital Area Finance Authority to offer a Citizens Purchase Bond Program to homebuyers in Southwest Louisiana.
Appointments and deferrals: The jury reappointed multiple district board members and appointed new members where noted, including William Bill Willis to Community Center and Playground District No. 4 (Ward 1). Several Workforce Development Board nominations were deferred at the recommendation of the Alliance pending further vetting; Mr. Glynn told the jury the Alliance asked Scott Walker to meet with candidates and expected nominations to be resolved within about a month.
Audit and budget action: The budget committee reported that external auditors Macleod, Clark and Birch issued an unmodified opinion on the parish financial statements and found federal-award compliance; the parish received its GFOA certificate for excellence in financial reporting for the 34th consecutive year. The committee recommended, and the jury approved, amendments to the fiscal year 2026 budget where revenues deviated from estimates.
What happens next: Condemnation orders include a 30-day removal timeline; deferred items will be taken up at the dates stated (e.g., Aug. 6 for 2959 Smith Ferry Road). Several administrative follow-ups were assigned to staff during the meeting.
