Butler County Board of Equalization approves assessor’s valuation list, tax corrections and 2026 cemetery list

The Butler County Board of Equalization met June 15, 2026, at the Butler County Courthouse in David City and unanimously approved three routine items brought by County Assessor Vickie Donoghue. The board voted to accept an assessor’s list of overvalued, undervalued and omitted real property; approved three tax-roll corrections for Randy and Sherri Helman; and adopted the county’s 2026 cemetery list.
County Assessor Vickie Donoghue presented the valuation and omission list and asked the board to approve it. "Moved by Krafka, seconded by Bauer, to approve the list as presented," the minutes record. The motion passed on a roll-call vote with Tony Krafka, Scot Bauer, Scott Griess, Jan Sypal, Bob Coufal, Brad Vandenberg and Chairman Scott Steager voting aye; there were no nays.
Donoghue also presented three tax-roll corrections for Randy and Sherri Helman. The corrections listed in the minutes are: #3314, added tax $36.60, noting an ATV from 2019 and a Howse shredder from 2022 not reported on the 2023 return; #3315, added tax $7.10 for the Howse shredder not reported on the 2024 return; and #3316, added tax $5.10 for the Howse shredder not reported on the 2025 return. "Moved by Coufal, seconded by Vandenberg, to approve the tax corrections as presented," the minutes say; the board approved the corrections unanimously.
The board then considered the county’s 2026 cemetery list. "Moved by Sypal, seconded by Coufal, to approve the 2026 Cemetery List," the record shows. The motion carried on a unanimous roll-call vote.
At 9:06 a.m., the board voted to exit the session. The minutes list Lori Aschoff as county clerk and Scott Steager as chairman on the signed record. The meeting record also notes that notice of the meeting was given by published proof and that the Open Meetings Act posting was available in the meeting room.
The actions taken were routine confirmations of assessor filings and administrative lists; the minutes do not record extended debate or conditions attached to the approvals.
