Fruitport board approves geotechnical and civil engineering contracts for Edgewood Elementary project

Board members approved awarding a TowerPinkster-solicited geotechnical investigation and soil-boring contract to Soils & Structures for $18,830, to be paid from the School Building and Site (2026) bond fund. Trustee JB Meeuwenberg moved the measure and Trustee Kris Cole seconded; the motion carried 7-0.
Immediately afterward the board approved a civil engineering services proposal from Spalding DeDecker for bond projects related to the new Edgewood Elementary School and the Early Childhood Center. The board-recorded cost breakdown lists $155,000 for Edgewood engineering and $40,500 for the Early Childhood Center work, with $7,000 in reimbursable fees, for a total of $195,500; the district said funds will come from the November 2025 School Building and Site bond. The motion was made by Trustee JB Meeuwenberg and seconded by Trustee Kris Cole; it carried 7-0.
Board President Dave Hazekamp and Superintendent Jason Kennedy were present for the discussion. Board members heard a committee recommendation from the Business & Finance Committee, which reviewed three geotechnical bids and recommended Soils & Structures as the lowest qualified bidder.
The board also received an informational update on the status of the Village of Fruitport zoning permit application for the Edgewood site, including parking and traffic circulation plans; no action was required on the zoning item at the meeting.
Next steps for the construction project include proceeding with the contracted geotechnical investigation and continuing civil engineering design work. The board recorded that the related consultant costs will be drawn from identified bond funds already approved by voters in November 2025.
