Committee hears stream restoration, NEORSD and ODOT updates; staff to inspect Chesapeake basin sediment

At the June 3 meeting, City Engineer Matthew Glass told the North Royalton Storm Water Committee the Royalton Road Stream Restoration project remains pending while the city waits for FEMA to review and approve the design.
Glass said ODOT has the revised plans for turnpike mitigation work but staff still need a temporary work agreement with the turnpike authority for work on turnpike property; he agreed to provide an update at the next monthly meeting. On NEORSD projects, Glass reported Thornhurst has had trees removed and the contractor is expected to begin stream restoration in early July. The Applewood project has slipped because staff are working to vacate a Wildwood stub street to secure an easement for future maintenance.
Vice Chair John Nickell raised resident requests to clean built-up sediment from concrete troughs draining to the sewer in the Chesapeake basin (areas near Potomac and Chesapeake). Glass said staff would inspect the troughs and clean them if problems are found; Nickell said he would follow up with a formal email request.
Wastewater Superintendent Ed Haller added that basin and main cleaning is prioritized around resident service calls; crews try to clean mains monthly but respond first to calls to avoid flooding problems. The committee noted it is largely in a holding pattern on several projects because the city has completed its parts and awaits partner approvals or actions.
