Police chief: 62 junk cars tagged in Toomersville; owners given 30 days or face court

Police Chief Wesley Cannon told the City of Byron council at its May 29 special meeting that the police department is actively tagging junk cars for removal and has so far tagged 62 vehicles in Toomersville. Cannon said the tagged vehicles are creating public-health and safety concerns, including tall grass, snakes and long-immobile cars with flat tires.
Chief Cannon said owners of tagged vehicles are being given 30 days to remove them or face a court appearance scheduled for July 9, 2025. He added that the tagging and removal effort will continue in additional enforcement rounds until the problem is addressed.
The council acknowledged the update; no formal vote or ordinance change occurred during the special session. The update was presented as an informational enforcement action by the police department.
