Byron council holds first readings of five ordinances on alcohol proximity, vaping, fuel centers, towing and building penalties

Ordinance 2025-11 would amend Chapter 4 (Alcoholic Beverages), Article II, Section 4-54, to update a definition related to proximity of premises to churches, schools, or other sites. Ordinance 2025-12 would amend Chapter 10 (Businesses and Business Regulation) to add new provisions addressing gaming machines and a new division for vaping and hookah. Ordinance 2025-13 would amend Article VII of Chapter 10 to update rules for gas stations, travel centers, and other fueling centers. Ordinance 2025-14 would amend Article IV of Chapter 10 regarding wrecker and towing services. Ordinance 2025-15 would amend Chapter 8 (Buildings and Building Regulations), including updates to penalties in Section 8.5.
All five items were recorded as first readings; the council did not record final votes or ordinance adoptions at this meeting. The first-reading presentations place the proposals on the council's legislative track for subsequent consideration, public review, and potential amendment before any final action is taken.
