Byron cancels Nov. 4 election after key council candidates run unopposed

Elections Superintendent Betty Sims reported that the City of Byron’s Nov. 4, 2025 General Election was cancelled after several candidates qualified unopposed.
Sims said that, pursuant to O.C.G.A. 21-2-291 and 21-2-325, notice was provided that where a candidate qualifies unopposed for office, the election may be cancelled and the candidate deemed elected. The seats and officials identified were City Council Post 3 Michael S. Chumbley, Post 4 Chris Hodges and Post 5 Alan C. Dorsey; the listed terms run through Dec. 31, 2029.
The announcement came as part of the council’s regular meeting on Oct. 13. No votes were required to confirm the cancellation; Sims presented the statutory basis and the list of unopposed candidates.
