The City of Byron Mayor and Council unanimously adopted a package of ordinances and resolutions at its May 12 meeting, including an annexation ordinance, changes to business regulations, and a set of administrative items.
On second reading the council adopted Ordinance #2025-7 to annex parcel 053C 083A into the city limits. Separately, the council adopted Ordinance #2025-8, which amends Chapter 10 (Business Regulations) to address gas stations, travel centers and other fueling centers, and Ordinance #2025-9 to amend the city’s vaping and hookah regulations. Motions to adopt each ordinance were made and seconded and carried by unanimous vote.
The council also approved a resolution adopting an updated Schedule of Fees for the Building, Planning & Zoning Department; the minutes state the schedule (Exhibit A) becomes effective May 13, 2025, and that where an ordinance sets a fee, the ordinance fee governs. Additional approved resolutions authorized an Automatic Aid Agreement between the Byron Fire Department and Peach County for fire protection, authorized an agreement with Georgia Peach Festival, Inc., approved an updated Public Works Director job description, approved surplusing a 2008 Ford Econoline van (VIN 1FBSS31L78DA03080), and approved the slate of GMA District 6 officers for FY2025-2026.
Votes at a glance: the minutes record unanimous approval on these items: adoption of Ordinance #2025-7 (annexation), Ordinance #2025-8 (gas station regulations), Ordinance #2025-9 (vaping/hookah regulations), adoption of the Building/Planning & Zoning fee schedule (effective May 13, 2025), approval of the Automatic Aid Agreement with Peach County, authorization of the Georgia Peach Festival agreement, approval of the updated Public Works Director job description, approval to surplus the Police Department vehicle, and approval of the GMA District 6 officers slate.
Why it matters: the annexation ordinance changes the municipal boundary for parcel 053C 083A and the business-regulation ordinances adjust local rules for fueling centers and for vaping/hookah establishments—matters that affect land use, business licensing and local permitting in Byron. The fee schedule update will change the department charges effective May 13, 2025.
All items listed in the minutes were approved without recorded dissent; the minutes indicate supporting exhibits and signed resolutions are filed in the City Clerk’s office at the Municipal Complex.
