CPC recommends several warrant items: housing services, pond study, refuge funding; denies one cultural application
Summary
At its June 16 meeting the Mashpee CPC recommended a slate of warrant items: $350,000 for the pond diagnostic study, $35,100 for the Friends of the Mashpee Wildlife Refuge (contingent on license), and $8,556.56 for shared regional housing services (administration to be determined). The committee also recommended taking no action on a cultural/community preservation application deemed ineligible.
The Mashpee Community Preservation Committee used its June 16 meeting to finalize several warrant recommendations and votes:
- Diagnostic study of John’s and Moody Ponds: The committee voted to recommend $350,000 for a multi‑year diagnostic study, to be administered by the town water‑quality coordinator (Ashley Fischer). The motion passed by roll‑call.
- Friends of the Mashpee Wildlife Refuge: The committee recommended $35,100 for conceptual design and a greenhouse/raised‑bed project, but made the appropriation contingent on a fully executed license (or equivalent town authorization), formation of a working group to coordinate site planning with conservation, and that conservation approvals be obtained before construction. Funds will be withheld until the license and other documentation are in place.
- Shared regional housing services: The committee recommended $8,556.56 from the affordable housing reserve to support shared regional housing services, to be administered by either the Mashpee planning department or the town manager’s office. The motion passed (one member recorded a 'no').
- MASHP cultural/community preservation application: Based on town counsel advice that the application did not meet CPA eligibility under historic preservation or recreation categories, the committee voted to take no action on that application and advised the applicant to seek other grant opportunities.
The committee also approved the minutes from May 26, 2026 (with spelling corrections) and took no action on a placeholder application from a retiring individual. Members reminded representatives to arrange reappointments for members representing other boards and set future meeting dates. All funding recommendations will be forwarded to the town warrant; the committee emphasized it will withhold any disbursement until grant agreements, licenses and required approvals are in place.
