County seeks grant for 37.3‑acre Oak Park fuel‑reduction grazing project

Ventura County staff told the Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council on June 25 that the Ventura County Fire Department is seeking grant funding from the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy for a Wildland‑Urban Interface (WUI) Target Grazing and Fuel Reduction Project covering about 37.3 acres adjacent to and upslope of Churchwood Drive.
Staff said the project would fund vegetation management and fuel reduction to lower wildfire risk and improve community resilience in an area proximate to homes. The Council was informed the funding request is under consideration and no final funding award had been announced during the meeting.
Councilmembers discussed the item briefly; staff also announced the Board of Supervisors will not hold regular meetings in July. Members asked to receive future updates and were advised a presentation on street resurfacing and sidewalk repairs — which may affect trees — will be scheduled for a future meeting so the community can discuss tree preservation measures alongside infrastructure work.
The Council did not vote on the grant request; staff committed to further coordination and to provide updates as the funding process proceeds.
