Kim Snyder, speaking for local participants in Wreaths Across America, told the Urbana City Council on Nov. 19 that Oak Dale Cemetery has roughly 1,775 veterans interred, including unmarked graves, and that the local group seeks sponsors and volunteers for the Dec. 14 wreath placement.
Snyder said the national program grew from one man's effort to ship wreaths to Arlington and that more than 4,000 cemeteries now participate worldwide. Locally, Snyder said cooperation with VFW‑DAV has filled much of the cemetery but the local organizers were short about 400 wreaths; she invited donations by check (due Nov. 26) or through the program's website. Snyder said volunteers can "just show up" for the community placement and that excess wreaths are allocated first to county cemeteries and then to the Dayton National Cemetery.
Council did not take formal action; Snyder distributed brochures and answered procedural questions about donations and volunteer logistics.
