The Mashpee Select Board on June 22 read and approved a proclamation honoring Jack Barowski, a recent Mashpee High School graduate and Eagle Scout, for using a fire extinguisher to put out a smoldering light fixture at the Mashpee Senior Center on April 10. The board’s proclamation recounted the incident, the assistance he provided, and his record of prior community service.
State Representative David Vieira, speaking as both a representative and an Eagle Scout, praised Barowski’s quick action and said the community looks to youth who “be prepared and do that good turn daily.” Senator Dylan Fernandez also presented a citation, calling Barowski’s actions “incredibly heroic” and noted additional recognitions he had received for earlier rescue efforts.
Barowski will be sworn in on July 7 and leave for basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where he is scheduled to serve as an intelligence analyst. The board’s proclamation and the legislators’ citations were met with applause; the Select Board then unanimously voted to adopt the proclamation.
