The Mashpee Community Preservation Committee presented a package of recommendations to the Planning Board on June 17 for placement on the town meeting warrant.
The committee voted to recommend $8,556 to support the town's subscription to the county shared regional housing services program, contingent on administration of the funds by the planning department or town manager's office. Members framed the cost as a passthrough to the county program and said the Affordable Housing Trust could hold funds in future cases.
The committee also recommended a $350,000 diagnostic study of John's and Moody's Pond that would include PAS testing and fish sampling; members described the proposal as extensive and said it mirrors the cost of a prior diagnostic for a nearby pond. The CPC recommended this funding to town meeting on the condition that an appropriate town office or grant administrator hold the funds.
Friends of the Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge requested $35,100 for a conceptual and site planning phase (including an architect match) at 475 Nathan Ellis; the CPC recommended funding and supported formation of a working group including conservation, recreation and CPC representatives to coordinate the project. The group noted deed restrictions on town land may limit lease options and that a license arrangement may be required, which affects grant eligibility.
Mashpee TV requested $100,000 for van equipment, but town council raised eligibility questions and the CPC took no action on that application; the committee did not forward a recommendation to town meeting for that request.
