University Heights Mayor Brennan says he will not seek a third term in 2025

Mayor Brennan announced at the Jan. 21 City Council meeting that he will not seek a third consecutive term as mayor in 2025. "I will not be seeking a third consecutive term as mayor in 2025," he said in a prepared statement distributed to council and the public.
Brennan reviewed accomplishments from his eight years in office, including reforms to the fire department, expanded sustainability work, redevelopment work at University Square, new economic development efforts and restored relations with John Carroll University. He said those projects and others he started are "well underway" and that he intends to use his final year to continue those efforts.
In the statement Brennan urged community members to consider running for the office and noted the filing deadline is Aug. 6, 2025. "I am stating my intentions now so that others in the community may consider this office, talk with their neighbors, and make plans to run for mayor," he said.
The mayor also said he informed city department directors of his decision and pledged to continue working on priorities including sustainability and departmental modernization through the end of the year. The mayor’s full prepared remarks were included in the meeting record.
