Urbana council holds first reading to rezone recently annexed property at 728 Children's Home Road

The Urbana City Council conducted the first reading of Ordinance 4611-24 on Sept. 3, 2024, to update the city's official zoning map and designate a recently annexed property at 728 Children's Home Road as R-1, Low Density Residential.
City Engineer Tyler Bumbalough said the proposed R-1 designation aligns the parcel with the surrounding low-density residential area across from the park. No council members raised objections during the initial discussion. President Paul declared the ordinance to have had its first reading; a public hearing is required under the city's ordinance procedures.
Mr. Thackery moved to place the ordinance on the floor for discussion and Ms. Truelove seconded; the council did not vote to adopt the ordinance at the meeting. The measure will return for additional readings and a public hearing as required by city rules.
