City moves rezoning for annexed lot at 728 Children's Home Road to second reading

Kerry Brugger, the city's Director of Administration, said the parcel has been annexed and already accepts utilities; the proposed R-1 zoning would match the residences across the street and replaces the township's U-1 open-rural designation. Council President Paul presided over the brief public hearing; no members of the public spoke during the hearing.
The ordinance was put on the floor for discussion by Council Member Thackery and seconded by Council Member Jumper. President Paul declared the ordinance to have had its second reading. Under the city's rules, three readings are required for ordinances, and no final adoption vote was recorded at the Sept. 17 meeting.
Because the item was advanced only to a second reading, the ordinance will return to a future council session for its third reading and any final vote. The council's next regular meeting is scheduled Oct. 1, 2024.
