Vernon County committee approves 2025 Community Development budget
Summary

The Vernon County Economic Development Committee on Sept. 5 approved the 2025 Community Development Department budget and voted to forward the proposal to the county Finance Committee.
Amy Oliver, Community Development Director, presented the proposal, saying the overall levy increase is driven by annual step increases and cost-of-living adjustments for three full-time employees, the cost of the county visitor guide and additional funds for marketing and advertising to promote tourism and the county brand once developed. Karen Dahl moved to approve the budget and Nathaniel Slack seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Committee members did not change line items during the meeting. Oliver said the additional marketing funds are intended to promote tourism outside of the immediate market and to support rollout of the county brand when that project is completed. The approved motion sends the budget to the Finance Committee for review, the next step in the county’s budget process.
The committee confirmed the Finance Committee will review the proposal; no vote totals beyond “unanimous” were recorded in the minutes. The committee’s next meeting is scheduled for Oct. 3, 2024, when other agenda items, including a loan-program analysis and housing-task-force approvals, are expected to appear.
