Denton adopts formal snow removal policy with specific time standards

The Denton Village Board adopted a Snow and Ice Response policy at its Dec. 1 meeting that sets time-based standards for snow and ice clearing across village streets and sidewalks.
Under the adopted standards, sidewalks are to be cleared as needed within 24 hours; arterials and the business district are to be cleared within 12 hours for accumulations greater than 2 inches; transit and school routes are to be cleared within 16 hours for accumulations greater than 3 inches; and residential or other streets are to be cleared within 24 hours for accumulations greater than 3 inches. Ice formation and additional accumulation from blowing or drifting must be addressed within 48 hours. The policy specifies that the Village Maintenance Supervisor and the Village Board Chair will enforce the standards.
Motion to approve the Snow Removal Policy was made by Trustee Doug Rosekrans and seconded by Trustee Amanda Fangmeier; minutes record the motion as carried. The adopted policy also clarifies that maintenance staff will follow these standards and that enforcement responsibility rests with the named officials.
