Denton board accepts maintenance-worker resignation, posts vacancy; tables interim hires and approves street event permit

The Village of Denton Board of Trustees on May 21 accepted the resignation of employee Ross Blackledge and directed the village clerk to post the opening for the maintenance-supervisor position, with applications to be accepted until the position is filled.
Trustee Ryan Osborn moved to accept Blackledge's resignation; the motion carried. Trustee Amanda Fangmeier then motioned, and Osborn seconded, that the clerk post the job opening for the water/sewer/maintenance-supervisor position.
Separately, the board introduced Ordinance No. 26-5-2, a wage and compensation ordinance that — per the attorney's suggestion — will be amended to add provisions for emergency hires and interim consultants; the board held the first reading and carried the motion to introduce the ordinance.
The board tabled action on hiring a temporary emergency maintenance employee and on hiring an interim maintenance employee with a maximum-hours cap until the June 1 meeting.
On event permitting, trustees approved an open-drinking permit for the Denton Daily Double's street dance on June 20 from 4 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. Trustee Ryan Osborn moved and Trustee Amanda Fangmeier seconded the approval, and the motion carried. Trustee Amanda Fangmeier also said she will be the village's point of contact for the Plant Nebraska program going forward.
Trustees reviewed bids for street striping following a public comment that raised concern about paint adhesion on Feb. 2, 2026; Chair Joe Hobelman said he will call APMS to discuss prior work and follow up.
Next steps: the clerk will post the maintenance-supervisor vacancy; the board will revisit temporary and interim hire decisions at the June 1 meeting. Ordinance 26-5-2 will proceed through its required readings before final adoption.
