The Village of Denton Board of Trustees on April 6 approved a conditional use permit for a retail fireworks stand at 7105 Cass Avenue and heard public comment on community events and park maintenance.
The board opened a public hearing at 7:42 p.m. (motion by Amanda Fangmeier, seconded by Doug Rosekrans). After public comment the board closed the hearing at 7:46 p.m. (motion by Doug Rosekrans) and approved issuance of the conditional use permit for 2026 (motion by Doug Rosekrans, seconded by Amanda Fangmeier); the motions carried.
During the public comment period, Shay Smith introduced herself as a candidate for the state legislature. Gail Braunsroth announced that the Denton Activities Committee (DCAC) will host a quarter-auction fundraiser on April 18 and said Denton Days is scheduled for June 20. Resident Lona Anderson asked whether DCAC could contribute funding toward an outfield track project, provided vendor contact information for playground work, and called attention to trash, thin turf in some areas and weeds in landscaping.
Resident Craig Vanslyke asked about the timeline for installation of remote-read water meters and how many meters have been installed to date; he also requested an update on a previously discussed street dip on Cass Avenue and on the condition of a tree at Lancaster and Cass. Public works representative Ross Blackledge said the tree will be inspected to determine if it remains alive and that he will follow up with the striping contractor about worn pavement markings.
The board approved a purchase of two Criterion 21.1 cu ft refrigerators from Menards at $622.99 each and approved Claims List A ($10,730.00, with one check to be voided), Claims List B ($4,207.83) and March net payroll ($14,589.04). The meeting adjourned at 7:42 p.m.; Village Clerk Charlotte Te Brink certified the minutes.
