Denton trustees approve warning-track surfacing, easement and routine financial authorizations

At its March 2 meeting, the Village of Denton Board of Trustees approved a series of infrastructure, property and financial measures that the board said will support maintenance, development and routine municipal operations.
Trustee Doug Rosekrans moved and Trustee Amanda Fangmeier seconded approval of a $23,250 bid for new warning-track surfacing presented by Blackledge; the motion carried. Meeting minutes state that the surfacing mix was provided by vendor Odeys and that Blackledge will contact the Denton Community Athletic Club (DCAC) about possible cost-sharing.
The board approved Resolution No. 2026-3, authorizing Municipal Clerk-Treasurer Charlotte Te Brink to make certain payroll, utility, insurance, filing-fee and penalty payments prior to board approval when required to preserve the village’s financial standing and meet statutory pay requirements; the resolution passed and is effective immediately. The resolution cites Neb. Rev. Stat. 48-1230 (timely pay requirements) and Neb. Rev. Stat. 17-714 (claims presentation) in its explanatory language.
Trustees also approved Resolution No. 2026-4 to sell eleven surplus hay bales by silent bid to Jake Baker for $31 and authorized the chair and clerk to complete the sale. The board reviewed an ingress/egress water main and sanitary sewer easement for 9505 W. Denton that had been previously conditionally approved pending attorney review; after the Village Attorney reviewed the document, Trustee Ryan Osborn moved and Trustee Trent Wheatley seconded a motion to approve the water and sewer connections and lagoon agreement and to authorize the board chair to sign; the motion carried.
The board approved an audit waiver request for fiscal year 2024–25 after a motion by Trustee Amanda Fangmeier and a second by Trustee Trent Wheatley. The clerk announced a Planning Commission meeting on March 30 at 6:30 p.m. to review village zoning and subdivision regulations, and Trustee Amanda Fangmeier reported on a Great Plains Trail meeting, describing the Prairie Corridor from Pioneers Park to Spring Creek Prairie.
Finally, the board approved Claims List A ($15,263.80), Claims List B ($5,199.60), February payroll ($9,452.09) and a Keno fund disbursement of $10,750; the meeting adjourned at 7:18 p.m. Minutes note that the village's sewer camera has been delivered and that street crack sealing is planned for the year. During public comment, resident Lona Anderson reported that some white striping did not adhere well to concrete and offered playground equipment vendor information for the board’s consideration.
