DPW shop construction advances; Conflict Defender building near occupancy pending security fixes

Allegany County staff reported progress on two facility projects during the Public Works Committee meeting on July 1.
At the DPW shop site, crews are sorting steel and preparing to erect structural members for the mechanic shop; office-side work includes a vapor barrier, insulation and plumbing for perimeter radiant-floor heating. Staff said they hope to pour the office concrete on July 9 or 10, weather permitting, then set steel and move to the large truck-storage building.
Separately, exterior site work at the Conflict Defender building — including concrete, topsoil, seeding and bollards around the gas meter and generators — is complete. Heating and HVAC systems are installed and staff training on building systems is scheduled; generator startup is set for July 8. Staff said occupants could move in as soon as the following Monday but may delay if they choose to implement security suggestions raised during a recent site tour.
Committee members asked whether anything else remained to finish before occupancy; staff said only system training and generator startup remained and that a brief BOE closure may be needed for electrical change work.
