Probation Director Jessica Mcnite told the committee she is seeking authorization to apply for a New York State DCJS STOP Violence Against Women grant for $75,000 to create a multidisciplinary, trauma-informed, victim-centered team focused on identifying and managing individuals at high risk of committing serious domestic violence, stalking or related homicide.
Mcnite said the grant would not pay for a new position but would support training and team formation; an assistant already hired in the office would provide leadership for victim services if the grant is awarded. Committee members approved the authorization to apply by voice vote.
The committee also approved accepting and appropriating a $100 donation to the county's Stop DWI program. The donation came from proceeds when a crashed motorcycle was scrapped and the proceeds were donated.
What happens next: Probation will submit the grant application and, if awarded, implement training and team-building activities; the Stop DWI donation will be appropriated to the program.
