Corwin council approves routine motions, defers cattail removal; hears report on collapsed hole

At its Aug. 12 meeting the Corwin Village Council approved several routine motions, deferred an environmental maintenance decision and discussed local road and traffic concerns.
Councilman Lacy moved to approve the July 8, 2024 meeting minutes; Councilman Cummins seconded and the motion passed by voice vote. Councilman Cummins later moved to delay any decision on removing cattails until Jones Warner Consultants Inc. could review the issue and provide an engineered recommendation; Councilman Lacy seconded, and the motion carried 4 Aye / 0 Nay. The council also held an executive session (motion approved 4 Aye / 0 Nay) and later returned to regular session by the same vote.
During council reports, Councilman Baldwin said a deep hole at 910 North Main Street was temporarily covered by a metal plate, that utility lines had been marked, and that Elite Construction would provide a repair quote. Baldwin said the hole "could be part of the Underground Railroad that has collapsed," a historical interpretation the council discussed but did not verify. Clerk-Treasurer Femmer noted the mayor's $5,000 automatic approval limit and said the council could call an emergency meeting if the repair quote exceeds that threshold.
Councilman Lacy also raised concerns about increased traffic routed through Corwin after a State Route 73 bridge closure and said he had contacted the Ohio State Patrol about traffic control. Councilman Cummins said he had emailed U.S. Representative Landsman to request assistance. The meeting concluded after a roll call vote to pay the bills (4 Aye / 0 Nay) and a separate motion to adjourn (4 Aye / 0 Nay).
