HOA approves $500 cost-share for tree removal; treasurer reports bridge progress and account balances

The George Mason Forest Homeowners Association Board on May 19 approved a $500 cost-share to remove trees encroaching on homeowners’ yards from common property and reviewed progress on two pedestrian bridges in the neighborhood.
Roy DeLauder, Grounds Chair, moved that the Association cost-share $500 for removal of trees encroaching on yards from the common area; Fred Knowles, Secretary and ACC chair, seconded the motion, and it carried unanimously. DeLauder will coordinate the work with the grounds maintenance company and draft a membership notice about invasive species.
The Treasurer reported an operating account balance of $11,246.64 and a reserve account balance of $204,671.05; the Board noted that all 2025 annual assessments have been paid. The Board discussed whether bridge payments should be treated like monthly common-area payments — i.e., if work is within an already-approved budget it would not require individual approval — and directed staff to investigate electronic payment options for common-area maintenance, bridge construction, and individually approved tree removal.
On project status, the Board reported the south bridge is complete and that the path to the south bridge from Tapestry will be finished as weather permits. The north bridge is in final design and will go to the County for permits, with construction projected in the fall.
The Architectural Control Committee (ACC) submitted an activities report covering January 21 to May 19, 2026; the ACC noted multiple approved permit applications (fences, roof replacements, decks, walkways, hot tub installation and a retaining-wall rebuild) and listed property inspections that were satisfactory.
Action items recorded: Roy DeLauder to coordinate tree removal and draft a membership message on invasive species; staff to investigate electronic payment methods for common-area and bridge payments. No new business was raised. The meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
